I'll admit..It took me a long time to understand Richard Pryor's brand of comedy. I just didn't get how a person could be so crass and funny at the same time....then I grew up. Sometimes, awful sh*t is just funny.
Hindsight, lessons learned, revelations, a slap in the face, OMG what was I thinking, you've got to be kidding me, Holy F@#&K, funny!
Even w/ the pain behind it all, a comedic genius like himself, can make you laugh, and even if you had NO idea where he might be coming from, he can pull you into his world and make you laugh some more.
Respect - He earned it from everyone because his words were real. Sure, I still prefer Bill Cosby type humor, but for Richard Pryor - I have respect and I laugh.
