Australian Open - Quarter Finals - What The Williams!?!?!
Ok, I'm still reeling from both of yesterdays matches...so I'm speaking straight from emotion here...forgive me!
WTF, was That!?!
1st: Venus VS Li.Na
Now, everyone knows that Venus has a hard time stepping up to the plate when it comes to the AO, but yesterday, she literally beat herself. It was like something in her mind went "Oh no! I'm winning...step on the breaks ...NOW!!! and she just...went away. It was so hard to watch.
I'm not taking anything away from Li,Na, she is obviously a good and experienced player, but really, Venus had he off the court in no time flat that first set. To go from 6'2, 5'3 up to losing 6'2, 6(4)'7, 5,7 --come on! That's just unacceptible, especially in a Quarter Final match!!!
2nd: Serena VS Victoria Azarenka
Then to my utter shock, and later joy - Serena comes out an basically does the reverse!
She obviously knew what happened to big sis Venus and I honestly think she spent that first set, mulling it over in her mind instead of playing her game....add that to the fact that Azarenka is actually a really good player and Serena, technically, had no choice but to lose the first set.
Not that I saw it that way...At the time I was livid..I kept telling her to snap out of it and play for goodness sakes....
When Serena went down 4'6, 0'2...I literally walked away. I couldn't watch anymore...First Venus and now Serena..it was too much. So I decided to keep an eye on the shot tracker instead...while the game played in another room. Serena went from being 0'2 down...to 0'4 down...and then I saw 1'4...and I thought "Oh NOW she wants to play!"...it might be too little to late....2'4....3'4....and I was thinking to myself, could she really pull this off...I had to leave my PC when the score was 4 all. By the time I get back I saw it was 6'6 ..."No Way!"
And then joy of joy Serena wins the 2nd set 7'6. So at that point I decided I had to watch the rest of the match, and when I saw the look on her face I just knew she had this!!
Final Score: 4'6, 7(7)'6(4), 6'2!!!
I had the matches recording so I will definitely go back and watch that one from beginning to end.
As for today's match..I have a feeling Li, Na may just be in for some serious trouble! I really, really hope Serena doesn't scare me like that again!!!
