What uuuuup, here we go again! Somehow I didn't finish this yesterday, even though I had stopped the night before with only 30 pages left. Well, I was being crafty yesterday, that's my excuse.
This was another great one! It's comprised of two longer stories (novella-ish, I think?) and they are both pretty solid. The first one totally ruled - there's a new student body president, and he's not just going to ignore the SOS Brigade like the previous one. He's threatening to shut down the literature club, which consists of Yuki only, and that means the Brigade won't have a room anymore! He tells them that the "literature club" can stay in business if they manage to turn out a literary journal. So YES, this story is about WRITING, and OF COURSE you get to read each brigade member's hilarious literary endeavors! Haruhi decides the best method is to hold a lottery of genres, and each member is forced to write whatever sort of story they draw. Koizumi lucks out and gets "mystery," so he just turns his little mystery games into prose (so actually, you don't get to read that one, because....well, you already did in the last books). Yuki gets "fantasy horror," and her writing is actually very insightful and, once again, makes me more interested in Nagato than in anyone else. She actually writes three really short stories, and after the first one I had to just stop and think about it a few minutes. Very nice. Kyon gets "love story," which is THE BEST, and yeah pretty much I loved this one!
The second story has the SOS Brigade getting its second ever client - a girl from Kyon & Haruhi's class who approaches them with rumors of a haunted dog park. YES. The back of the book says, "Will the group need to perform its first canine exorcism?" When I read that, I was like, "haha, of course not, but this is going to be good," but actually YES, there is a DOGGIE EXORCISM in here. Well kind of. More or less. The point is this one is great too, and when there's an afflicted puppy involved, we get to see that hidden, softer side of Haruhi, that's slowly coming to the surface more often. This story also takes place right before the end of the year, so Kyon is reflecting on it being one year since meeting Haruhi and changing his life forever - and a lot of his musings on how she's become happier, nicer, and that even though she's still an explosive ball of unstoppable energy, she seems to take other things into consideration more often. Basically, she's stabilizing. AND THEN....???
Anyway! Good readin'! The only problem here is, there's not even a release date on Amazon of the next one. ;_; Wikipedia tells me it's April, though. But the next three books are all one storyline, released months and months apart! This is why I don't ever want to read book series until they're all released, I hate waiting! >:(
Total book count: 1/50 - 2.0%
Total page count: 220/15000 - 1.5%
Up next: GN&W, of course (the book really is interesting, it's just so....dense. It takes a while to get through even a few pages), and Japan: An Illustrated History. Oh, AND, this book makes 150 towards my goal of 200! Getting there, getting there!
