Well, we made it here yesterday and things seem to be all right. Kevin seems okay, considering that he's all alone now (except for Goldie; thank goodness for dogs). He's been a little more social, too. Usually he'd only talk to my mom if she asked him something, and he avoided talking to any of us. Yesterday though, we were talking about Eric in the Philippines, and Kevin came in from the kitchen and started talking too, because he was in the navy and spent some time there. I hope he realizes that he does still have family. Looks like he has a cell phone now too, so my mom can keep track of him. With him refusing to the go to the doctor, my mom's worried that he'll get sick, and...well, if anything happened to him here, how long would it be until someone found him? So at least he's got a cell phone now, and she can check in on him all the time after we get home.
We went to church today here, which was fun because people recognized my mom from when she grew up here. They got all excited and came over. But then they always asked what brought her here...and it's hard to turn a cheerful, excited conversation into a downer by having to say, "Well...both my parents....passed away in the last two weeks." But people at our church are a lot better at handling death. Even though her parents weren't members of our church there are still plenty of opportunities for them to be with us forever as a family unit, and since they were both in pain and suffering it's not really that sad of a passing at all.
I did forget to mention with all the commotion that Bro Mumford called me and left a message earlier this week, then I called him and missed him, but he called me Friday when we were on our way to California already. Apparently he has a potential job opportunity for me, and wanted to know if I was still unemployed. He asked what I was up to, and I said still looking, and he said, "You're still unemployed? That's great news!" Haha. Punk. But I guess he has two companies that are looking for an accounting person (he's the financial controller at the Harley-Davidson dealership, but neither company is actually the Harley place - the owner of it is Brook Romey, a local millionaire who owns tons of places and is close to Mumford, and he wanted him to pick out the accounting people for some other companies). Anyway, he had wanted me to come in that day, but I told him I was already on my way to California. He asked where in California, and said "If it's Disneyland I'll just meet you there!" Then I was like, "Um...well...." Again, it's hard to turn a lighthearted conversation in such a sad direction. :( But he was okay, and after offering condolences, he just said to call him when we got back.
So I have no idea what or where these jobs would be, but whatever they are Mumford could probably hook me up. So I guess I'll be calling him Tuesday morning. And at this point, the cruise is close enough it wouldn't be a big deal to ask to just start up a job after I get back, or something. One way or another this will work out!
