Oh Saiunkoku. How you solve my stress woes. The second disc is magical. The English dub has not gone horribly awry in these five episodes, either! These episodes introduced Reishin and Houju, which were the two voices I was most concerned about. Shockingly, Houju's voice sounds exactly like his Japanese one. Just speaking English. Does that ever happen? Reishin somehow magically comes across exactly as weird as he needs to be, but not like some weird pervert (holy cow, the first time I watched this show...the first few minutes he was on screen I was convinced he was a total perv. I need to get my mind out of the gutter). Also, I love the addition of little sleepy noises when Houju is asleep on the couch in his office. Those weren't there in the Japanese one, and I loved them in this. XD Houju is a freak but I like it, I like it!
Ensei also showed up on this disc. He has a good voice too, but he wouldn't be hard to cast anyway. Melanie and I were thinking he might be the English Saiyuki Reload Gojyo's voice, but apparently not. They sounded similar though. Disc 3 is out in December, and we get to meet Eigetsu. He better have the cutest little voice in the world. If he does, then Saiunkoku English dub wins. Wins completely. Other dubs could take awesomeness lessons from it.
