I took a week to think. A mental health vacation. Work is absorbing everything and friends are becoming sparse. I'm quitting my band as well as quitting cigarettes. It's been a week since I've associated with either. I can't say it's not hard to say goodbye to them both, but it's for the best. The band was becoming more of a second job than a hobby. Practices, when it was actually possible to get the four of us together, were mostly filled with petty arguments and laothing stares. The fun had gone out of the thing. Besides, each of us had seperate projections we were all working with on the side, some that seemed more important than this main project. So, I made the decision to stick with my work with Chiavi, and possibly start a bedroom-recording project with B.J., something along the lines of Explosions In the Sky meets Sonic Youth, swooping melodies with great explosions of feedback, precisely my cup of tea.
I was in St. Augustine vacationing. I can't explain how great it was to be on the beach for 6 days with no responsabilities, no worries of money, phone calls, driving, cleaning, bosses, band mates, doctors, bar tabs, surf reports. If I wanted to know what the surf was, I opened my eyes and there it was, though it was barely a foot high the whole week. I spent my days lying on my beach chair, breathing in and out, my eyes closed and the sand in my toes.
I read Justin's copy of 'Cry, My Beloved Country' this week. It has put me back in a mood to read and learn and discuss. If only I had like-minded people in the 772 to conversate with, since company of this sort seems to be lacking. I used to be able to look forward to my college friends coming home from school on holidays and long breaks, but since I've severed contact from nearly all of my friends, I'm left wanting. There are a handful, though some are terribly far away but hopefully will be returning soon. I'll keep myself preoccupied until then.
It's raining today and my phone is on silent. There is suppose to be fireworks, since it is the Forth of July, but it's unlikely that they will go off on time, if at all. I'm not quite decided whether I want to leave the house today. I'll decide.
