How the film industry saved everybody's lives.

I hung out with Pati, David, Bender, and that whole crew Monday night at Hole in the Wall and Tuesday night at Dog and Duck. I did end up at Arts and Crafts Night on Tuesday, but late. There, Brian confirmed with me that I would be helping him build a stage out behind Monkey Wrench books on Saturday, and I said no prob.

Wednesday I went with Extreme Greggers on a hunt for this Thai resaurant out in the middle of fucking no where off of Hwy 71. It's underneath a water tower, across from a fireworks stand.
Yeah.
Shit they were cool though. Thai bloody marys are the fucking bomb. We're going to work on getting a group to RSVP and all go out there some time.
The guy had a garden out there and was selling keffir lime leaf plants, so Greg snagged me one of those, then the guy went ahead and just gave me a thai pepper plant and a lemon grass plant.
Fuck yeah!
Wednesday night I went and saw Walk the Line, the Johnny Cash film. There I met up with Heather, Laura, and my old buddy from aikido, Pete.
I liked it a lot. I know it wasn't perfect true to life shit, but I really liked it.

By Thursday it became apparent to me that Brian needed more help with the stage than just with the construction...he didn't have any moolah and needed wood to build the fucking thing out of. I searched the neighborhood desperately searching the local construction areas to see if there was any wood for nabbing.
No avail...bah!
That night I called up the ever fantastic Tim Travis (uhh, the dude I owe getting into the union to), and he cleared all of our woes by telling me that not only could I steal some movie wood from Ferrel's shop, but that I could borrow the grip's fucking TRAILOR to haul the shit!

Friday I had agreed to get together with Brian where he works at Dobie and bring him some lunch, then we could take off and meet up with Timmy and get the wood.
I had also told Polaris that I could meet him at Spider House and feed him too.
So I made Pad Thai. I made a fuck ton.
I brought it to Spider House, didn't see Polaris, picked up Brian, brought him to Spider House where we ate with Extreme Greg, Austin Bender, Mary and...crap...her...boyfriend... and then Polaris did show up and we fed him too.
Then me, Brian, Bender and his friend Duke took off to go work on the stage...
We got to the Austin Studios just as Timmy called me and told me that his day was done. So we turned around and planned to get the wood the next day.
Timmy's been going through some hard shit lately...
So instead we tried to get all of our shit together to go to Hamilton Pool ...By the time we got everyone's shit together, no dice, the sun was setting, and we ended up instead gathering up some other complex mates of Bender's, James and Jamie, and going to a party way the hell out north.

Saturday I went ahead and went down to Timmy's place. He's not a stone's throw from where I live.
His door was unlocked again, so I came in and played with the dogs 'till he woke up. We made the plan to get together at the Studios at two thirty to get everything together.
I got Brian and Bender and we went to the studios. It was a funny day to go...the Austin Film Society was having tours to show the place off for SXSW, so there were little tour groups. Good part though, Scotty was cooking up a storm and I got to feed my crew and steal some waters.
Once Timmy got there it was cake. We rolled the trailer up to my truck, my hitch works beautifully (thank you Tim Cole), and we got all the pallets and 4x8s that we needed.
I also got the wood for my catapult. Hooray!!!

After unloading the wood at Monkey Wrench I left Bender in Brian's hands, lent them my hammers and some gloves, and jetted off to Polaris' place to help him load up his stuff to move out.
Heh.
Boy couldn't focus for shit. He hadn't packed a thing, so I went to the corner store and got some trash bags for him to load clothes that he's storing in to.
It took him HOURS to pack his stuff up. He couldn't stop talking, and he was in a shitting emotional state, though he wasn't letting it show on the outside. I could tell that he was doing all that he could just to keep from breaking down.
His friend Andrew came by and loaded a ton of his stuff, including his art work, to store for him.
The three of us packed the trailer and by probably elevenish we finally took it up north to be stored.
Once we got up there we took about an hour to just sit down and eat. No one had eaten all damn day and we were all getting spacy and dizzy.
We unloaded everything very carefully stacking it all to the side of one room, then took his futon down to the complex where Bender, James, and Jason live and dropped the bed in Jason's place, then took his entertainment center to Andrew's place.
I got home by five in the morning.
Fuck.

So Sunday they came over so Polaris could do laundry. I made them breakfast and in the few hours he spent here he only got one load done... No fucking focus in that guy...
I took off and told him to leave the rest in my room to do later. So that's still here...
I went to the IATSE meeting, which went so fucking well.
There I met the president of IATSE, Steve Bilsky, who's the biggest sweetie. He had offered to let me stay at his place before ever meeting him, just because I had some work out in Dallas and didn't know my way around at all. I was glad to finally meet the guy.
I shot a picture of him and Kurtie in from of the IATSE flag. Kurt's the one who really lent me that trailer that saved everyone's lives this weekend.

After the meeting I went to Bender's complex and spent the rest of the night watching a film with James and Jamie and hanging out with Bender at Spider House where I ran into my old friend Geneva. I love her so much, but she'll be stuck in dependant hot chick mode for I don't know how fucking long... I need to get her interested in art so she can start doing something more with her life. The girl's to good to be latching on to other guys' stardom.

Today I dropped off the trailer at the the studios and said hi to the guys. They're gearing up for Grindhouse, starting this Thursday. Man...I can't wait for them to call me and ask me to come work with them! This one's going to be so much fucking fun! :) Night shoots too, so we wouldn't have to worry about sun burns or heat.

I'm heading over to James's place to hang with him and Jamie. We're going to Buffalo Exchange later on to hang Jamie's art work. Polaris already hung his stuff there yesterday.
Tonight we're all going to see Greg's show at Red Eye Fly. Hooray for noise!

productivity, experience
