For those I haven't told out there in LJ land, on Monday I started my first meaningful job after finishing university studies last year. I'm working as an Account Executive in a medical and pharmaceuticals communications company on Sydney's North Shore. Whilst I've been hired in the client services team, my tasks include the development of marketing communications plans, project management, event and conferencing management, scientific writing and editorial, referencing, and storyboarding.
Being a small office within a large global network of employees, there's a lot of pressure to deliver projects on time and within budget. Despite this, the work is challenging and offers a level of variety that I suspect I wouldn't have working for larger companies. It's been an extremely tiring week, having to adjust to the new hours, the long train trips, the people and the nature of the work. There's been barely time to spare, which is partly why you haven't seen me post for a while. At the moment there are contemplations of moving out closer to where I'll be working, perhaps within the next couple weeks if everything holds up.
Annoyingly now that I've been offered this job, I have had two responses from previous applications asking me to come in for interview. That in itself has raised the odd dilemma this week, especially given they were for sales positions within Glaxo Smith Kline and Roy Morgan Research. Part of me is tempted to just have the interviews to see what they're offering, and in the meantime focus on the job at hand. Otherwise I'm working hard in this current job and putting my best foot forward. A couple of my creative ideas have been cleared by clients already to be used as themes for their communications, so I must be doing something right!
On a more positive note, working fulltime makes the prospect of the weekend even sweeter. Especially when that involves cake... birthday cake ;)
