Not in the freakishly-vampiric-Edward-sparkles-and-his-semen-doesn't-die sort of way! I mean, he is immortalize through the fans! And even a century later, he is still famous! There's going to a be a new SH movie this 2009 starring Robert Downey Jr. (from Iron Man) and Watson is played by..get this...Jude Law!! (WTF, Watson is bishounen!) And Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Mean Girls) will be Irene Adler.

freakishly-vampiric-Edward-sparkles-and-his-semen-doesn't-die sort of way! well that's a very good way to differ him!! XD
and wow, Jude Law? Isn't Watson supposed to be like...old? with a beard? I dunno XD and Rachel McAdams is pretty good too!! (I'm a fan of her comedy films, and also her bitchy attitude. It just fascinates me!! XD)I hope that THAT movie will be great!!! ^^

Yes, yes, Sherlock Holmes is not immortal in that freakishly-vampiric-Edward-sparkles-and-his-semen-doesn't-die sort of way! (I have to repeat that because it feels good!)
Yup, like Watari-loyal-companion old. And not that handsome. Yes, Watson might be handsome but not "pretty" like Jude Law. Anyway...
I also hope it will be great. I love Robert Downey Jr..but he seems too, well, Sherlock is supposed to be skinny and RDR is just too muscular for the physique. But I have no doubt he could capture the "quirky, sarcastic" attitude of Holmes.
As for Rachel McAdams, she's beautiful..but I don't want a sappy romantic angle between her and Downey's Holmes.

hahahhahah!! XD Go non-immortal-in-that freakishly-vampiric-Edward-sparkles-and-his-semen-doesn't-die sort-of-way Sherlock!!! XD (that was long...XD)
Which is probably why they chose RDR as the "sarcastic one". And it would be fun to see him smoke or drug himself....alot. XD Just picture it, it's classic!! XD
But you know the cinema life, they will probably place an 'alone moment' for those two in the middle of the movie where they talk and get to know each other more (like telling the story of their pasts) then they'll feel a deep concern about each other's being and they'll be obligated to save each other. Meh. XD

The best actor of SH whom no one has surpassed yet is Jeremy Brett and his TV series as the detective Holmes is such a guilty treat. I hope RDJ will up his game and base his acting on Brett-sama's!! Hmmm, the cocaine thing will probably be controversial because, even though its part of Holmes' individualistic preference, it might send a bad message to teen fans in general.
I don't like Holmes x Adler!! I mean, I fancied a romantic angle years ago when I'm a rabid fangirl in heat...but now seriously and canon-ly speaking, Holmes is supposed to be "emotionally distant" so na-uh! No, no, no! But I believe that the director and the writers beg to differ and want to push through a romantic angle.
Okay, no judgments just yet. I wanna see how they can pull it off.

It's either they will base it on how JB did it or even surpass it (if that's possible) But I think they will (they have to, especially if they want to earn tons of money.)
Aww, that sucks.
But they probably would place those two in a MILD scene where they will remember each other forever. Just like L with Naomi. When they told in the anime that they used to work together, a lot of thoughts ran to our heads like: "Really?!" or "*gasp* What did they do?! What case did they handle?! Were they together?! As in together-together?!" or simply "NO!!!". I got all three of them XD
Hopefully, they make it quick so I can watch it in my house. And I actually have JB's version of SH.

The first SH novel "A Study in Scarlet" was published on 1888. And according to Doyle, Holmes' birthday is on 1854. He was 33 in the first novel.
