I was reading today about the SS Rio de Jeneiro that sunk near the Golden Gate like a hundred years ago. Almost everyone on board perished because of the rapid sinking and the communication difficulties between the American officers and the Chinese crew. The weird thing was how it talked about bodies and pieces washing to shore years later. It seems really strange, like it's so surreal it should be a metaphor or something. A sunken ship that nobody can find keeps sending reminders back to the shore...

I went up to Canada this last weekend and on the way back stopped to visit my half-brother and my sister-in-law in Chilliwack. It's the first time I've ever been really alone with them without anyone else in my family. It was really weird kind of getting their much-less censored take on our family, etc. I learned a lot of things about my childhood etc. that I never even thought of before. Its kind of just really nuts breaking down some of this mythos I have about who my family is, and finding these real people underneath.
