Watchmen is basically unparallelled in the comic world. I mean, the only other comic that's considered a "classic" really is The Dark Knight Returns. There may be others, but they don't really come to mind. You might enjoy the first four trade paperbacks of The Authority, but yeah. Watchmen is full of great nuggets - Rorschach, Dr. Midnite and his troubles with humanity, the psychotic shock ending... great stuff.

Rorschach was quite the character, but I think you meant Dr. Manhattan. A few years ago I'd checked out Kingdom Come, which is similar in a few ways, and liked that. I guess after a few trips I'm looking at trying out Preacher as that has gotten some pretty consistent praise. Then again I may just drift away from comics once again.

Definitely meant Dr. Manhattan. Been some time since I've read through Watchmen (do own it, though), and didn't bother to Wiki it, so there you go.

Kingdom Come is pretty solid, definitely. Preacher is interesting... but I'm not 100% sold on it. I have the 9 books it consists of, but even so - it has its weak moments.

Damn ... not convinced but you got the whole story! Anything else you'd recommend? I kind of dig dystopian stories, and trying to stay away from superhero ish for the moment.

Yeah, my trade collection gets pretty massive.

Well, the only major existential dystopian series that comes to mind is Sandman, really, though don't quote me on that one as gospel, as I've never read through it all myself. I read a mix of things, such as:

-100 Bullets: a film noir-type conspiracy story
-John Constantine, Hellblazer: story about a magician in England fighting against the same dark arts in which he dabbles
-Invincible: the story of the coming-of-age of a teen superhero
-Ex Machina: The story of a New York mayor with the ability to talk to machines, and the issues he faces as such ... actually, you might enjoy this one
-Y! The Last Man: The story of the last man on earth, quite literally. A disease has wiped out anyone with a Y chromosome except for him, leaving a whole lotta psycho females. You might enjoy this, too!

Indeed. There's others, but these are definitely the predominant ones.

I thought about Y when I saw it on the stands. I used to read Sandman on a monthly basis way back when and I think I've had my fill. I'll look into those though, thanks. Ex Machina does sound interesting.
