An easel crammed with sketch drawings stood beside the artist. He sits on the stool, paper and charcoal pencil ready in his hands. He stares at the empty stool opposite him. Setting up his area, waiting, drawing, waiting, more waiting, then packing up and going home. This is how Kim Junsu lives each day. And today he continues to wait, for someone to occupy the paper for twenty dollars.
Like every other day, Junsu sees him again, the man with the auburn hair. A familiar itch creeps onto Junsu’s fingers. Like always, the man sits on the stool and waits.
And Junsu starts.
Eyes scan the exquisite features he never got sick of and the captured image was transferred to the paper. Lines and curves skidded their way across the paper and shades were unashamedly splayed.
Like always, he was his first customer.
As usual, Junsu clipped the drawing onto the easel. It’s the fifth sketch of the same person. People must be wondering if he has a fetish for this man. When he turned back, the man was gone, again. Yet his little wooden box now contained twenty dollars, with an opalescent white gardenia on top, like always.
