Forty Years after those Six Days

June 5th 2007 marked the fortieth anniversary of the Six Day War of 1967, during which Israel successfully fought against Egypt, Jordan and Syria in tandem and managed to double its territory in a short span of less than a week.

Supposedly one of the most brilliant ventures in tactical warfare, this war is a case study that most military generals would love to be given a chance to possibly emulate, given the right circumstances.

Six days was all it took to capture Gaza, the entire West Bank, the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights, thereby doubling their territory, while reducing the border that they had to defend by a reasonable proportion.

This war also marked the time when Israel was finally able to capture the old city of Jerusalem and get access to their holiest site, the Wailing Wall or the Western Wall, which is the last standing portion of the second temple of Solomon, where the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock now stand.
