Happy birthday, anna !
It so happens that my aunt/uncle are visiting (Bangalore) from Tirthahalli. Our conversation went somewhat like this:
Geetatte: how long will you stay this time? ..blah blah blah ... line clear aytalla...blah blah blah .. August 29th is your grandfather's 101st birthday.
Me(somewhat tongue tied): That's great, will call him! By the way, do you have any idea about my amma / anna's birthdays ?
Amma(listening on the other phone): Today ! Your dad was born on Upakarma !
Me (feeling like Mr Doofus): Happy birthday, anna !
Anna(shyly): Thank you.
Historically, we never really celebrated birthdays much at home. Amma would make paysa for our birthdays (vijis and mine) but for the life of me, I can't recall recognizing anna's birthday. So, this is the first time I am wishing him happy birthday!
