Google desktop tool
Google's new desktop bar is utterly beautiful! You got to try it!
It makes life on the computer very smooth.
These points caught my attention -
- viewing new Craigstlist messages, say about "TV", (which I had done recently and google automatically picked up) or any other RSS feed from the tool.
- stock ticker for my favorite stocks. I currently use finance.yahoo.com, about 5 times a day, which would probably change now.
- Most popular items on the internet as of "Now", along with new news.
- Desktop search that changes the result as you type, every character! Very stylish!
- Gmail indexed and searchable from the bar. Its beautiful, I no longer have to login/logout every now and then.
Reminds me of my "Ubiquotous computing" class back in Arizona State Univ. We designed projects where the primary goal was to reduce "attention times" of applications. The lesser the time taken to do something, the better for the user. Google desktop tool does that beautifully.
And, best of all, its nice to see the desktop update automatically with all that interest you - stocks, news, emails, ads etc. Makes life much fun.
