I've... taken a look at Negi.
He's not really doing that well.
I suppose I should explain what happened to him. He basically, somehow, survived Encroachment. It's a... side effect, of Magica Erebea. As you consume magic, you start fueling the void with darkness, all of those nasty little festering emotions, and use that as fuel.
Negi... burnt a good portion of his very soul. It'll take him weeks to recover from that spiritually.
