Huh? Is someone making something? I didn't know they provided meals here.

Of course they do, otherwise what would the people who live on base do fo--

Shit! She's going to gut me!
W-woah! Hey! Hold on a second! Don't look at me like that! It was just a big mistake before, I really am sorry!
-He backs away a little, hands raised defensively.-
You should uh... put that pan down... wouldn't want to hurt anyone, right? Right? Eheheheh...

Well, alright. Since you apologized.
*scoops out a bowl of stew and hands it to Shinji as a peace offering.*
Here. I promise it's not poisoned.

Thanks. It was Chidori, right? That's... a really nice name.
-He takes a seat, testing the stew with a small sip of his spoon. His face lights up, and he digs right in, almost comically so.-
Wow! This is delicious! I haven't had food this good in a long time! Even the soup I make isn't this tasty...

And I never caught you name.
Heh, of course it's good. I don't do anything other than my best at whatever I do.

-Shinji sighs, stirring his stew a little before another hungry bite.-
You like cooking? I do, too. I live by myself, so it's how I get by.

Really? I live alone too.

It was only a few scratches. It's okay. I'm used to it.
Wow, I always thought I was the only one. Where do you live in Japan? I'm around Tokyo myself.

I-I didn't mean anything bad by that, honest! *frantic handwaving* I was just curious as to why someone would pilot something that could injure and do things to them like that.
It's actually not that uncommon. And I'm also from Tokyo. I go to Jindai High School, where do you go to school?

It's just an ordinary middle school I attend. You probably wouldn't know it. I never go half the time, any way. I'm always busy with the Eva.

That's not right, an education is important! Otherwise what are you going to do when you're older and don't have one to fall back on?

Sorry if that sounds weird. But I'd like to think I know some stuff already. I mean, I read newspapers and watch the news, and things like that.

You're more mature than you seem. And even though you're doing this for other people's sake, you should have something just for you that's not based on you being a pilot. That way you can have something normal.
You still can't learn everything you need to from the media. What about all the things they don't cover? What would you do if you came across something that you never learned how to do because you didn't go to school, and got in major trouble for not being able to do anything about it?!

-Shinji looks slightly taken aback from her sudden burst of passion.-
I... I don't know. It's never come up. I just deal with things as they come. The future never really mattered much to me.
