Big Thought of Today
As a Persian-Jewish Israeli-American, I have many strains of history to pick and choose from to claim as my own. Should I identify with the proud history of the Persian Empire? How similar am I to the Ashkenazi, secularized Jews of America?
I have assimilated more than the just the American culture. I've assimilated it's identity as my own. For most of my life, I've identified as white. I may have settled here in the 90's, but American history has always been my history as well.
Perhaps that is a mistake.
