Ohno is there, just standing at the door, staring into the bedroom with a little smile on his face. It’s a nice smile, Jun thinks, one that promises laughter and better things, but for some reason Jun’s heart aches to see it--why, why should he be sad to see Ohno smile like that?--but it doesn’t matter, because Ohno’s here, and--
“Come here,” Jun says, and holds his arms open, beckoning Ohno over to the bed. He should already be there, anyway, it’s the middle of the night, and Jun’s cold without Ohno there, but Ohno just shakes his head.
“I’m gone,” Ohno says. A strange thing for him to say, he doesn’t talk like that, cool and dismissive like that, and he steps back, out the door and out of Jun’s sight. For some reason, Jun feels a jolt of panic--“Come back, wait, come back,”--and he leaps out of the bed--
But when his feet hit the floor, he finds his legs are weak and wobbly, he falls to his knees and it jars him, the room blurs because he realizes he doesn’t have his glasses on. He’s breathing hard and for a moment he can’t remember why he’s here on the floor: he was asleep, something woke him up.
Ohno, he thinks, and his heart leaps and his gut twists all at once, leaving him dizzy: Ohno was here, he just walked out of the bedroom, Jun hasn’t heard the front door shut yet, so--
Jun lets out a short, rough breath, and sinks down to rest on his heels. No, not here. It was a dream. Ohno was never here. He hasn’t been here in months. He’s gone.
It’s just that Jun keeps forgetting.
He gets back in bed.
