When Roy showed up three hours later, it was high-time for Riza to take another allergy tablet. His ridiculous grin dropped when he saw the expression on her face and her slightly puffy eyes. She would pause to contemplate the miracle that his eyes could see that much some other time, because right now she feels both like she wants to kiss him and crawl into bed and sleep for a year. By herself. It’s a feeling that she’d become used to over the years.

“I don’t know why you bothered to knock. You clearly have another way of getting in here.” She told him. He had the courtesy to look slightly sheepish at that before shrugging it off.

“You never told me you were allergic.” He told her as he walked into her flat. The unspoken question about her well-being goes ignored by Riza - it’s not necessary to dignify that with an answer.

“I didn’t know myself.” She told him, shutting the door. She watched him leaning against her kitchen counter looking far, far too pleased with himself at his gesture and how is it possible that he can look so at home here?

“You like them, though. I can tell. You’re not that annoyed.” He said and anyone else in the world would be fooled by the brash arrogance in his voice but she had seen that arrogance undone far too often and recently for her to be taken in by it.

“They must have cost you a fortune.”

“I got a discount after last time.” A silence fell between them for a moment. It was broken by the sound of both their laughter and suddenly Riza found her eyes watering for an entirely different reason. This time, she found that she wasn’t being torn with conflicting emotions and all she wanted was right there so she kissed him. After a moment, Roy smiled against her lips and put an arm around her to tug her closer and he might be ridiculous and irritating but he made her smile when she was her lowest, and he filled her flat with flowers when she got out of hospital after they saved each other’s lives five times over and he is it. She had known this for years but sometimes, in moments like this, all the implications of that would hit her and it would make her glow to think of the reality of it all. When she pulled back, he smiled at her again - softer and sweeter than she had ever seen him and he hugged her to his chest. He placed a kiss to the top of her head.

“You know, from what I remember, there’s one room that’s flower-free. Might be better to stay in there - for your allergies.” His voice rumbled through her and she laughed.

“You’re not exactly subtle, you know.” She teased with a smirk and took his hand to lead him through the many, many, many bouquets of flowers to their allergy-free sanctuary.

omg this is absolutely adorable, i love it so much! you bring me so much liiiife

also it is mildly ridiculous how roy is totally able to secretly plot a fucking coup d'état right under the nose of the military, but completely lacks a single, solitary drop of subtlety in the romance department
