I realized while active in The X-Files fanfic community that if I enjoy a piece of fanfic and don't leave a comment, I feel as if I've shoplifted a book. Profic authors get a little royalty from the sale of a book, regardless of whether the reader likes the work, or even if they read it!

Fanfic authors get... the satisfaction of playing with their fandom? ...their muse to stop pestering them? ...the hope that someone years from now will appreciate the story after the fanfic author has moved onto another fandom?

I so wish I could leave feedback for William Shakespeare, Edith Wharton, Vladimir Nabokov, Alice Sheldon, MR James, Pablo Neruda... but they're dead. You're not.

Oh, no! Not at all! I live for long comments/reviews. Hell, I live for short ones. I've been sucky about answering to all the comments in all the chapters because of life and uni, but since this is the last chapter I'm trying to be better about it.

Ah yes, the joys of being a fic writer. Which is not to say I don't love fic, because I do. I love it so much, but I totally get what you're saying. Sometimes it's nice to know that people enjoyed what you wrote. :)
