Just saw the last "big action" movie of the summer: G.I. Joe. This was the last one on my list, including Transformers, HP6, Terminator: Salvation, X-Men: Origins, Fast and Furious, Star Trek, Angels and Demons. All I have to say is:
This summer was BIG disappointment for me movie wise. All the "big" movies basically did nothing for me, expect make my wallet and fannish heart cry. Yes, they all had cool action scenes and some funny moments, but overall they made me wish most (not all, mind you) of them had never been made. Or at least that they had been made BETTER as many had the potential to be good movies of the action kind. Like me and my bro discussed leaving the cinema, Big Names and Big Directors do not equal a good movie anymore. Plot lines are just getting so tangled and lost in CGI and about the Money and breaking even more than the quality--not that action films are known for their Oscar quality, but STILL. I expect to leave theatre feeling entertained not like I lost X hours of my life and my money to boot.
Summer "blockbusters" why did you make me so sad!
Also with Joe specifically, I am insulted on G.I. Joe's behalf, most specifically the Baroness' behalf. WTH!? Seriously? Her whole plot line was an insult to the badass of her character. And I could have done without the flashbacks. ALL OF THEM. Marlon Waynes was funny, but you expect him to be, even if most of the comedy was at the expense of his character which was uncool. I mean seriously.
I will give props for clever bad guys, but not much because of The Cobra Voice, which had me rolling in my seat.
