“Faith”
Toby sat opposite Agt. Taylor, meeting that implacable gaze, thinking of another pair of blue eyes meeting his for a split second that morning before darting away. Long enough to see a wealth of pain and bewilderment, more resignation than anger. He’d have preferred anger; that would have made this easy.
Taylor’s pen tapped impatiently against a notebook. “Well? What do you have to tell me?”
And he hadn’t taken an oath - or made a vow. Nothing tangible bound him … only a haunted pair of eyes.
“*Beecher.*”
“Nothing, Agt. Taylor,” he said at last, the words coming easy. “Keller never told me anything about the murders.”
Somehow the angry frustration in Taylor’s eyes wasn’t so hard to bear.
