A moment in time with Toby, from one of my favorite fade-to-black moments...
~~Shot to the Heart~~
Frozen, seething anger shocked out of you by the crack of a gunshot and Chris crashing to the floor, and you can't think, can only scramble for the door and grab him, drag him to safety, hold him tight and tell him it's all right, it's going to be all right, and the words are for yourself just as much because the blood won't stop, it won't stop, and he's so still and pale now and the light's dimming in his eyes, and you try to hold onto him and keep him safe when they come to take him from you, and you're all alone then, stained with his blood, too numb to even pray to God to bring him back to you, your own heart shattered by that shot.
