HardTime 100 Challenge 292 - Tim McManus - The Other
Sometimes he thinks of Tim as the other. Just some college educated idealist who decided to make the prison system his own personal project. He doesn't know how to relate to the COs because he's so busy fighting the system that the COs are part of.
Sean sees there are things that can be done within the system, but not at the expense of safety. There still needs to be a hierarchy of who's in control. It doesn't mean that the solution to every problem is force, but they can't shy away from it when it's needed.
He learned a long time ago that the cons in here were never going to be his friend, that if they got cozy with him, it was because they wanted something. Tim sees every friendly approach as progress, as proof that his system is working, and that illusion seems to fool him every time.
Sometimes he thinks of Tim as the other, but mostly, he sees Tim as the guy he grew up with, as someone he wants always in his corner and as someone he needs to protect from himself.
