It belonged to her mother, there’s a lock of her hair in it.
She was going to give it to her daughter when she was old enough.
Because of Satan that won’t happen.
She strokes the small locket and sighs.
She’s pregnant now; maybe this baby won’t have the devil in it?
It might even be a girl she can give the locket to.
Shirley smiles, and hums to herself.
Closer my lord to thee.
All will be well with this baby; it’ll be on time just like the mail.
