Characters: Shirley
Word Count: 100 (I did it!)

Shirley counts the days, marks each one on the calendar with lavender ink and a gentle caress. Time passes slowly, agonizingly so, and she knits away the hours, chasing her needle through tresses of color.
In the early hours of Sunday, the third of the month, she lights four candles, pausing to admire the dancing flames before she snuffs out each one.
One for today. One for health. One for love. All for her beautiful baby girl.
She raises the last one to her lips, closes her eyes, and imagines the peaceful sway of the hangman’s noose.
She exhales softly.
