He's done it this time. Pop's gonna be so pissed when Lenny tells him what happened. His mother sits beside him, stroking his hair. She is fading fast, her always-smiling eyes now tired and sad. Tears start to flow down her sunken cheeks and that's when the gravity of what he's done sinks in. The doctor said she ain't got long and there he is causing her more trouble.
"Don't cry, Mamma. I'm sorry - "
She does not let him finish. "N-no, Petey - do not say that - it's okay now - it's o-oka-kay - everything's going to be okay - it was n-not your fault. Wha-at h-hap-ha-hap-pen-ed was not your fault! S-so d-don't be s-sorry - don't d-don't - " she cries. That's Mamma, always so defensive of him.
And that's the worst part - worse than anything his father's gonna have to say - because it was all his fault. He has brought shame to the Family - to her - and she will never see him for the pathetic, worthless piece of shit that he is. He shuts his eyes, unable to face her anymore. He would give anything to take back what happened, anything...if only he can take it back...
"Peter," someone calls his name. Lenny. What's done is done, come's Reality's hard slap. And he's going to have to get what he has coming. "I just talked to the family. You're out. Someone else's gonna take over operations here in Oz." Yeah, who did he think he was? All high and mighty - running things - becoming his father, even better perhaps...so much for that...so much for everything...
"Please don't tell my father," he pleads to no avail. Lenny just looks at him like he's crazy and leaves. He's all alone now.
