"Daddy?"
"It's me, baby. I love you."
"When are you coming home? I miss you."
Toby swallowed and shut his eyes. "Daddy's new job is taking longer than we thought, but I'll be home soon."
"Promise?"
"I promise. Nothing will stop me." Toby choked away his sob. "I love you."
"I love you too." There was a soft sigh. "Bye. Bye."
Toby opened his mouth, but the line went dead. He put the phone down and managed to walk out the door, despite the ache and rage in his heart.
"About time, prag." Schillinger grinned. "It's shower time!"
