Yeah I'm nuts... I read Kipling too much as a kid. And Beecher makes a nice Balkis, doesn't he? Although a sometimes faithless one.

There was a little shiny blue butterfly fluttering around in Em'city and the hell if anyone could say where he came from.

Oblivious of human nature he landed on Keller's shoulder. Keller put down his book, held out his hand, outstretched his fingers.

/Come here little brother /

The butterfly did, fanning himself, clutching to Keller's forefinger, Keller tilting his head and after a moment laughing a soft intimate laugh that made Beecher's body ache in need; and whispering something.

Later Keller stretched, rose and walked past Beecher, brushing long fingers again his ex-lover's shoulder.

"Don't," he said, pointing his chin at the guy Beecher intended to meet later in the laundry round.

Beecher looked up; the butterfly was gone.
