Lantern Festival

I didn't get a chance to get out much this summer but I was happy to host quite a few visitors from out of town. My friend Peter who is a Department head of ENT Surgery at Stanford Medical School had a rare conference in the city along with his surgical nurse Jane. A week later, my friend Linda came with Ron on some business in the province. It gave me a great excuse to get out, show them Toronto and to see things I wouldn't usually frequent alone. One of the events that they all really enjoyed was the lantern festival which had come for first time to our city. I forget how many lanterns they advertised were displayed...a thousand lanterns and about a million lights?? It ended a few weeks ago and hopefully it will be back next year as it was a huge succes in Toronto. The tickets were pretty pricey at $25/ person but luckily I was able to get free media passes from a friend for when Linda and Ron came. In essence this was congruent as I'm currently a health columnist for a Toronto magazine. I just told my friends to say that they worked for the same magazine :). Ha ha.

Enjoy the pictures!

Everyone loves the Pandas

4 Dragons in the water

Peter and his Surgical Nurse Jane under one of the Famous gates of China

Masks,

Me and Linda on a bridge overlooking the Temple of Heaven

This is so cool!! This water dragon is completely made of thousands of cups, bowls and cereamic utensils!! Check out the close up shot!

A Moving water Dragon that spouted water out of its mouth while it circled the Phoenix.

The Temple of Heaven. Aparently it is modelled on a 2:1 scale after the real temple in Beijing and is where Emporers went to pray

Hmmm...some Indian culture here too...with 3 elephants. All of these elephants were also made of thousands of bowls, cups and utensils.

Showing off our free passes. MEDIA BABY!!!
