-Chapter Twelve-
Of course that idiotic Jung Yunho would find him in the single patch of grass that seperated their highly thought of academies while he was there. Dong Wook rolled his eyes, wondering what the boy could possibly want from him and at such a ridiculous hour.
The SM boy took seemingly angry strides toward Dong Wook, his fists clenched tightly and trembling as he approached the boy he had silently sworn to dislike throughout their high schools. But now, his dislike for the boy had escalated to a degree of hatred. Without even hesitating, Yunho swung a heavy punch at his rival's face the moment he was close enough. The first swing had occured so quickly, Dong Wook wouldn't have been able to see that one from a mile away.
The blow landed squarely across his jaw, forcing him back several steps. He looked at Yunho with a shocked expression, but that quickly faded into a thoroughly annoyed one as he found his own fists balling up in preperation to return the small favor.
Yunho advanced on Dong Wook once more, but the YG student was more than prepared for anything the SM wonder boy might have had up his sleeve. Dong Wook was succesful in temporarily stopping the boy by landing a mild punch on his side, but very temporarily. Yunho didn't shy away like anticipated, only winced and swung. It was a considerably weak blow, but warned his opponent that he had a fast reaction.
Or a stupid one.
Dong Wook shoved Yunho back as hard as he could muster and growled angrily, "What the fuck is your damage, Jung?!" The boy regained his balance and glared his worst at Dong Wook, breathing hard and unevenly.
Only a couple of punches had been delivered and they hadn't moved much. Could Yunho be tired already? That was impossible. It must have been anger that had the usually composed boy breathing so irregularly. Dong Wook cocked his head to one side as he wondered what could have possibly happened to make Yunho act so irrationally toward one another. Sure they didn't like each other, but--
"Stay the hell away from Boa!" Yunho hissed through clenched teeth.
Dong Wook froze as the words gripped him with their icy cold grasp. His eyes slowly narrowed on Yunho. "Kwon Boa?" His fists clenched tightly then unclenched, only to clench once more. "That two timing bitch," he growled darkly.
Yunho shook his head, "Don't speak about her like that!" Again, he advanced on Dong Wook with his fist drawn and this time, he wasn't pushed away.
The two boys struggled with one another with fists flying in all directions and hitting anything that was on the body of their much hated rival. To Yunho, this was a battle, a chance to prove who was more worthy of her affection. In the end, it would be him. It had to be him. To Dong Wook, this was an entirely different sort of fight. A fight to work out the frustrations he had just recently acquired.
How stupid was Jung Yunho? Wasn't it obvious what his precious Kwon Boa had done?
"Eventually," Dong Wook sighed, recounting the night's events to Jaejoong, "two of my friends showed up to pull me away from that bastard." He didn't bother to glance in the SM boy's direction, knowing he had earned himself a disapproving look. "One of them was, Wheesung, the other Taebin. When Jung tried to get at me again, Wheesung held him back while Taebin made sure I couldn't get to him." He shook his head. "It wasn't much of a surprise when those two started going at each other, but it was a shock when campus security from both our schools showed up."
Jaejoong didn't need to here much more. Fights amongst the academies often occurred, but there were few stories in which security actually turned up. Administrators had a zero tolerance for any sort of physical fighting, no matter how much their dislike for the rivaling academy went, and no fight would go unpunished.
"Then, your friend," Jaejoong whispered silently, glancing at Dong Wook's distant expression. It was more or less the same one he had worn on the first day they had met. When he mentioned just how much favor SM Academy seemed to have over YG Academy. "He was expelled wasn't he?" Following this question came an unbearable silence. It was the sort of question that could only be answered with silence.
"Because of me," Dong Wook sighed guiltily, "because I always do whatever I want, my best friend got expelled." He clenched his fists tightly and shook his head, “He got expelled for nothing.”
Some several yards away, peering around the corner of building, while still attempting to remain unseen by the two boys, stood May Doni. She had been chased away from the cheerleaders while they practiced, something about their routine being super top secret. Being thrilled to leave, she had began the trip to her room, but paused at hearing the low voice of Dong Wook, telling a story she had been most curious to hear from his own lips.
Who had been the person who had managed to drag it out from him? That's when she had peered around the building's edge to steal a glance at her sunbae's audience.
Oh how pretty this boy was. It something very difficult to miss, which made her wonder who he was and what his involvement with Dong Wook was. Not that it was any of her business, but she was positive that he wasn't a student at their academy. Was it possible that he belonged with the SM crowd?
She nibbled on her lower lip, attempting to get a better look at the beauty when nearing footsteps instantly distracted her. May Doni played cool and slowly turned around to see who it was that approached her. If it was an SM student that her sunbae was talking to, then surely none of his friends or teammates knew about this secret friendship he had formed right under their noses.
At seeing Seung Ri approach her, she let out a frustrated moan and instantly strode past him. Of all the people she did not want to see, the young soccer player had topped her list effortlessly. As she had anticipated, Seung Ri quickly turned around to follow her and she easily led him away from Dong Wook.
"May Doni," Seung Ri began seriously, "I apologized for taking your book, ok?"
"Consider yourself not forgiven," she grunted in response, still keeping an even stride and putting more distance between them and the neutral grass land. "I don't find it funny taking someone's property like that and then teasing them with it."
Seung Ri finally stopped walking and let out a frustrated sigh, "You should just be lucky I didn't tell anybody that I saw Shim Changmin's name in something that supposedly belongs to you." If he had been aiming to make the girl stop dead in her tracks, he succeeded. Knowing he had her full attention, he closed some of the distance between them, "Why are you meeting up with the likes of that guy, May Doni? Do you know how much you could suffer if someone found out?"
May Doni didn't speak. She couldn't. What was there she could possibly say to defend herself? Seung Ri went on at her silence, "You know how thick the school rivalry is. I don't even know why you even started talking to a guy like him in the first place, but you've got to stop."
When she attempted to walk away, he gently grabbed her arm, but she broke his grasp all too easily. "He's my friend, Seung Ri. I wouldn't expect you to understand." With an icy glare, she marched off to the dormitories. Though she was fairly aggravated with the boy's attempt to meddle in things he couldn't even begin to comprehend, she was silently relieved that he hadn't seen his hyung.
While Seung Ri may not have seen Dong Wook and Jaejoong talking, someone other than May Doni had.
* * *
Changmin knew something was up, and whatever it was certainly had to be far from good. Yunho's darkened features were a fine indicator to go by. In his time with living with the older boy, he had learned to read his hyung almost as well as any book, though sometimes a few pages went missing.
In this particular novel, there were a few chapters missing.
Junsu could sense something wrong within Yunho too. It was as if that monster they hadn't seen for some time was now peeking out at them, threatening to rear its ugly head if tempted to do so. It seemed that not even going out to dinner for once proved helpful in lifting the eldest's mood. "Hyung," he began silently, "you haven't touched your food yet. Are you still waiting for Jaejo--"
"He isn't coming," Yunho snapped darkly, causing Junsu to jump slightly in his seat. Of course, neither boy missed the fact that Jaejoong's name wasn't to be uttered.
Shortly after arriving back to the room, Yunho had quickly showered after barking orders to the younger two to dress and be ready by the time he was. Jaejoong hadn't gotten back by the time Yunho was ready to go, so they went on without him. When Changmin had suggested they call their roommate, the idea was quickly waved to the side. Yunho would have none of it. "He's a good enough cook," was all he said when Junsu questioned how the boy would eat. “And not to mention the school cafeteria.”
Now the three boys sat at dinner in an awkward silence. Well, it was more awkward for Changmin and Junsu, who cautiously tip-toed around certain subjects so not to further annoy Yunho.
Especially since he would be taking up the bill.
Yunho's thoughts constantly fluttered back to the beauty he had left behind out of annoyance and cowardice. The image of seeing Jaejoong and his sworn enemy sitting and talking to one another bothered him so immensely. It wasn't as if anything had occurred. The two just sat there and spoke civilly to one another. As any friend would.
But those two weren't supposed to be friends.
SM and YG were as different as black and white. As yin and yang.
As Jung Yunho and Choi Dong Wook, themselves.
You're not the only one that sees something special in Jaejoong, he reminded himself within the confines of his mind, though it something he didn't want to remind himself of. Was there truly a possibility of that YG snake taking an interest in Kim Jaejoong?
My Kim Jaejoong?
