Our New Years' Eve marking the end of 2020 came and went with little fanfare. The global pandemic had put a damper on the notion of even getting together in groups of 3 or more. Honestly, we slept most of the evening and were awoken as midnight approached, by a flurry of phone calls and text messages from well-wishers, that roused us to a state of semi-consciousness.
It was the first explosion that made us sit upright in bed. Someone had decided to set off fireworks in the courtyard adjacent to our building. Being on the 15th floor, the Roman Candles were detonating only a few meters outside our bedroom window.
We sat up in bed and watched the fireworks not only in our immediate vicinity but cascading all along the lakeshore as various people had broke protocols and ventured out into the cold to set alight an array of joyful explosives. Loud whoops, and cries could be heard from the various balconies surrounding us.
If you listened carefully, you could hear people, cursing 2020, and relishing it's passing.
After 15 minutes, the fireworks began to die out, and hollering began to subside, and we simply rolled over and went back to sleep.

Both Deanna and I later commented that it was the most relaxing NYE either of us ever attended.
