Growing up in Toronto, my parents put me in French Immersion, with the best of intentions, thinking this would give me an edge in life.  For me, it was a daily academic nightmare, and resultantly, forged a poor intellectual self-image in my formative years.... but that's not where I was going with this

Probably not a popular opinion, but I've never really cared for our national anthem - either the melody or the lyrics (in either language, though I'll take English over French just because it's slightly less religious).

I've always loved the melody of The Maple Leaf Forever, but the original lyrics are way too martial and Anglo-centric. The lyrics that won the CBC Metro Morning contest in 1997 are better, but it'd be nice to have something about our First Nations heritage in there, too.

Realistically, we need a new national anthem; something that addresses the demographic of the Canadian population in the 21st century.
