So I've returned from another company retreat, with the same onus as previous occasions -- we are expected to go into the wilderness with our collective skills and return triumphantly with some innovative brand new product that will bring the company honour, respect, and wealth. I've come to understand that this is a New York myth. There was even a radio ad on way back purveying the myth further of "a team of baker and cooks from a restaurant sequestering themselves in a cabin" and returning with new masterful dishes for the restaurant.
It's bullshit. It's crap. It's the fantasy of company owners for the magical recipie for success that can't be found in traditional business environments. It's what company owners tell each other to explain the new product they magically pulled out of their asses which is really the knock off of one of their buddies projects which they had a team of east Indians work feverishly around the clock to build over the weekend to beat their buddy to the patent.
It's sick. And not in the awesome kind of a way. To really get some serous infrastructure built, we need a month of undistracted time.
