Because after a year defined by losing, it's nice to know that your rival is just as disappointed. This short etherous article made me smile due to its pinpoint accuracy.
"Whenever a #1 seeded Duke lost, they'd post for years with delight about how Duke "choked." When Duke players shed tears losing their last games in the tournament, the jerks from UNC mocked it. They spread pictures around the internet of JJ and C-Well. They continue to do it.
So now, after a monumental choke today by a #1 seed--a team built on offense yet able to manage 2 buckets in the final 14-1/2 minutes--their coach goes on TV and sobs. What will they say now? Oh, they'll say how Roy and the teary-eyed players deserve credit for showing emotion.
Hypocrites. When Duke, b/c of its talent advantage, went to the line far more than opponents in year after year, the idiotic UNC fans cried conspiracy. Still do. Yet this year (like 2005) UNC got call after call in game after game (b/c of talent advantage). Went to the line 34 times today, almost twice as much as G-Town. Yet the conspiracy mongers are silent. Suddenly it's not a problem to make more free throws than your opponent attempts. Or at least not when it's the magnificent Heels.
They make fun of Duke's "coaching tree." Matt Doherty is fired after bizarre behavior toward players. Buzz Peterson was an utter failure (61-59 at Tennessee). Roy Williams' assistant Steve Robinson (first at Kansas) was fired by Fla. State after 4 straight losing seasons. Yet these idiots were poking fun at Snyder and Amaker. Amaker's record at Michigan (109-83) was far better than Robinson's and Peterson's. But facts and logic are strangers to UNC fans.
They talk about family. Look how Doherty was treated. And Phil Ford is dumped from the coach staff. Nice family values.
We hear from these hypocrites year after year how Duke has no class leaving in starters late in lopsided games. So I watch all year to see Heel fans cheer as their starters are in the last minute of blow outs, often shooting threes, sometimes running up the score trying to win biscuit discounts (oh, and if State fans were juiced about discounted biscuits, the condescending Heel fans would make fun of "rednecks" and biscuits; but when it's Carolina, it's all wonderful). No wonder Ty Lawson dunked on NC State on the last possession of the ACC championship game, when State had already conceded. To Lawson's fan base, that's cool and classy.
They called Dahntay Jones a thug b/c of the tatoos, etc. Yet Ivory Latta is a heroine, running around the court flexing her arms and making goofy faces. Rashad McCants? Maktar? Joe Forte is caught with firearms and drugs. No biggy.
When a Duke player transfers, UNC fans has a field day. When their players transfer (Boone, Morrison, Fingleton, etc.), no biggy.
Coach K is overrated, they tell us, because he failed to win more championships the past 10 years with great talent. Yet Dean Smith failed 34 of his 36 years to win a championship, despite enormous talent and a veritable TV and recruiting monopoly. By the standards of UNC's finest, Dean Smith would've been a horrible failure. But Deano is a legend. It's K who's overrated.
I turn on the TV every now and then and see some chubby UNC cheerleaders, and then I click on the internet to read snicker-snicker posts about Duke having chubby cheerleaders.
And could you just imagine what they'd say if Duke wore BABY BLUE uniforms!"
