God I am really really sad about this.
Like I went from pissed off to incredulous to attempting to understand why he would throw his career away and then BACK to pissed off...
...but now I'm just sad.
He was a fucking genius on that show. It simply can't be denied. He created one of the most vivid and amazing characters in the history of television. His performance as Kramer puts him up there with Dick Van Dyke and Jim Carrey as some of the best physical comedians of all time, period. He could make you laugh just by entering a room-- think about how good you have to be to get that.
And now I sit and think about why he would have done that, even if he is/was a closet racist. To unleash such an angry, hatefilled tirade like that...he's gotta be dealing with some stuff, some inner demons, some something. That's absolutely no excuse, and I can't fucking BELIEVE he'd do something so fucking disgusting... but I refuse to believe a man who has been in the industry since far before Seinfeld wasn't aware of the ramifications of a tirade like that.
It just makes me sad. Seinfeld is my all-time favorite show ever. Nothing's fucking sacred anymore.
How's a kid who loves watching reruns of Seinfeld gonna react to this? How could he do that knowing how it's gonna taint not just his future, but his legacy as well? How can a man just fucking throw all of that away? I don't care how much you're heckled, when you are beloved by MILLIONS across the country...they don't care if you bomb at a comedy club. Shit, Jerry made a whole movie about bombing with material at a comedy club. Just don't throw everything away like that.
Nothing's sacred.
