CHARACTER NAME: Kuyou Suou
FANDOM: Haruhi Suzumiya novels
CANON: Book 9, before chapter 4 of the beta timeline when Kyon, Sasaki, Fujiwara, Kuyou and Kyoko meet for coffee.
WHAT THEY LOST: She'll believe her primary directive is focused on the castle, the castle residents, and the world itself instead of Haruhi, Sasaki and those surrounding her. So she won't make herself 'invisible' to everyone around her, and will stalk and observe people instead of just COMPLETELY IGNORING EVERYONE because they're not Haruhi, Sasaki and co. This will also enable her to adapt via the castle residents and not just humanoid interfaces.
PERSONALITY: Kuyou is... not very individualistic. She is an even bigger blank slate than Yuki at the beginning of the series: she shows absolutely no emotion, her social skills are extremely poor, and even her ability to communicate is almost nonexistent. (This is due to the Canopy Domain, the entity that created her. It is on such a different level than organic life on earth, even the other alien, Data Integration Entity, that communication with other organisms until recently has been impossible.) Because of these qualities Kyon refers to her as more rudimentary compared to the other aliens - Yuki, Asakura and Kimidori.
However, that might not be entirely true. Unlike those three it seems the Canopy Domain has not constrained Kuyou by rules and limitations to the same extent. Essentially, she is given more autonomy: she doesn't need authorization to act, and she actively begins to adapt and utilize information that she observes from her surroundings.
When she is first introduced she has trouble creating basic sentence fragments, with long pauses between words. At times she is also incoherent, but as she interacts with the three other aliens her speech begins to develop. She even learns to mimic certain actions, such as tilting her head and smiling, though she isn't aware of the meaning behind them (her smile is described as being beautiful, but a simulation).
She is known for being extremely passive unless necessary but with short, surprising bursts of attempted interaction with other people (namely those surrounding Sasaki and Haruhi). Normally these are through action and not speech, as action comes far easier to her. Emotions are alien (hurr) to her and it's strongly implied that, as she seems to lack a strong individuality, she has problems comprehending other people. She may understand first person "I" to an extent, but not second person, "you". (Think autism.)However, with her ability to adapt, it's likely she can learn.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
There is a small, dark-haired girl in a Japanese school uniform sitting on a bench in the town square. It's unknown how long she's been there; she gives off the air of it having been a very long time, but if one were to ask around there wouldn't be a single person who would ever be able to recall noticing her there. She hasn't budged an inch, or spoken to anyone, or even really looked at anyone.
All she's been doing is staring unblinkingly straight ahead. There's a wind, but her hair and clothes aren't the least bit ruffled by it. Her stillness rivaled that of a statue, and for the more tech-savvy castle residents she looked reminiscent of a very lifeless, pale hologram.
It was daytime and both castle and town residents went about their business. The square was popular for both groups at this time of the day, which was her main reasoning for being in that spot. She had already observed quite a bit at the castle, but there was more information that could be sought in the city.
Those who lived in the city. Those from the castle. The refraction of light at different angles, the results of which needed to be acquired.
A castle resident stops at the bakery to buy some bread. Birefringence. Two people - city and castle - bump into each other as the latter rushes to work. Negative refraction. Several from both groups sitting at the water fountain, enjoying the clear day. Reflection. All very mundane, day-to-day activities, but all absolutely necessary.
So she sat. Unblinking, unmoving, unnatural. A human in visage only.
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
[the tone of voice recorded in the journal sounds soft, a dull monotone. There's isn't the least bit of concern or worry present, despite the entry's subject matter. It's as if the owner of it is simply reciting a mathmatical formula. A cardboard box has more emotion.]
