Phylum Annelida
(aka: circle worms)
are made up of segmented circles
veriform: a worm like structure/shape
metamerism: process of creating segmetns
homonomous w/ metameras (aka:segments): having numerous indentical body parts
ex: in an earthworm each segment has a kindney; earthworms have between 5 and 12 hearts segments.
(arthropods have HETEROnomous: purposely different segments)
MOST have a closed circulatory system. purpose of blood: red=gas exchange; white=protection; platelets=clotting(aka hemostasis).
like humans, earthworms have hemoglobin
metnephridia: has kindneys
*humans kindeys evolve 3 times; 3 phases, due to evolution
has a coelom, but filled up with fluid that acts as a skeleton= hydrostatic skeleton
*closely related to arthropods, but arthropods lose coelom
movement: crawl using circular and longitudinal muscles or swimming
trocophore larvae: unique to annelids and arthropods, nearly impossible to decipher)
setae=chatae: chitin based "hairs" used for locomotion. hardest part of body.

Class Polychaeta ("many bristles")
parapodia: bristle setae for locomotion
has a well developed head
lives in tubes which is secretes; helps with respiration*
