Title: Two Birds, One Stone
Characters: Sousuke Aizen (formative), Marco (lcpdragonslayer)
Timeline: 12 April, 1950
Rating: G
Summary: Marco pays Aizen a visit and brings gifts.

Investors were a breed of their own. Fickle, demanding, high-maintenance and mildly irritating. Especially if they suddenly died and left a widow behind who knew how to handle money and was determined to carry on the good work of her husband and thought it was a good idea to discuss business over dinner.

Aizen seriously doubted that 60-year-old Mrs Edwards would react too kindly to what he'd offered her husband - free access to the private dining area and suites of Cinq. No, she probably wouldn't appreciate that. He'd have to try a different approach. Charm and gentle coaxing should do the trick.

The Concavo sighed softly. If reincarnation was possible, he wanted to come back as a corporate business owner. Then he could legally steal from society without having to worry about things like sweet-talking widows of investors, or breaking up happy picture book families and disposing of small alley rats who couldn't keep their mouths shut. Speaking of which...

The boy was late.

Hands tugged at the lapels of his suit jacket as Marco ran up the short flight of stairs, heading into the office. He was already running late, and he knew better to keep someone like Sousuke Aizen waiting. Next time, he should really familiarise himself with the place before going to his appointment. Getting lost in New York City may have sounded ridiculous to the locals, what with the 'simple, foreigner-friendly grid system', but navigating around Manhattan was hardly a simple task.

He wandered down the corridor briskly, only pausing to take a second look at a... particularly well endowed female employee. He smiled at her and resisted the urge to stay and chat, giving her a small wink instead before heading straight for the big man's office.

Marco stopped outside the door, checking to see if he was outside the right office. Straightening his suit and sleeves again, he knocked a couple of times before twisting the doorknob open and peering in.

Seeing no one else in the office but the big man himself, Marco smiled and peered over his shoulder before sliding into the room and closing the door behind him.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, old m-err... Aizen, sir.”

“I’m sure you have good reasons for being late,” Aizen replied evenly, letting that almost slip of the tongue slide, and leaned back in his chair, a small smile on his lips. It had been a while since the last time he’d seen Marco but the boy hadn’t changed much.

“Have a seat. There’s no need to stand around like a package that wasn’t picked up.” The older man gestured at the chair languidly. “You were held up by work, I assume. Surely, a smart, resourceful young man like you didn’t get lost?”

Marco laughed. "Of course. How could I get lost? The place is 'so tourist-friendly', I'd say."

Taking a seat as per Aizen's request, Marco reclined back into his seat and crossed his legs, claiming it as his own on the spot. He was almost as relaxed and casual as Aizen - but of course he could not compare to the big man himself.

He reached into his suit and pulled out two manila files. He knew that the old man was strapped for time since he had to squeeze in this meeting in between Aizen's appointments, and so he would have to get straight to the point.

Turning them so that Aizen could read the dossiers the right side up, he leaned over the desk and placed them in front of the Concavo.

"I've done and got what you - or well, Ulquiorra - asked of me. The person in question was a small-time undercover cop named Harry Jones. I pulled a few strings and managed to get myself sent here to Manhattan and assigned to a case that made it possible to get rid of him without too much cause for suspicion. His house and workplace are also clean. All the permissible details are in the first file."

Marco entwined his fingers and rested his hands on his knee.

"The second thing you asked regarding the Fitzgerald murder - there is indeed an informant who ran to tattle to the NYPD. The informant's name is Larry Bynes - I got a copy of as much information as I could from the NYPD headquarters. They're all in the other dossier."

Smile widening a fraction, Aizen propped up his elbow and rested his cheek against the back of his fingers as he watched Marco making the chair and the area surrounding it his own. It wasn’t something that came naturally to people, even less so in Aizen’s presence but the young man pulled it off effortlessly. It could probably be credited to being the child of rich parents and, of course, to being the former leader of the - what was the name again? - Dinosaurs.

The Concavo let his gaze skim across the reports on his desk while he listened to the young agent’s recount of how he took care of the undercover cop. His interest waned right after the first sentence. It was done and, therefore, it wasn’t worth his time anymore. The ‘second thing’, however, recaptured his attention.

“Bynes? The one who works for the DA’s office?”

A well-manicured hand reached for the manila folder and pulled it closer. Well, well, wasn’t that convenient? If Bynes vanished, the NYPD and the DA’s office would be busy blaming each other for a while, giving the Concavos enough time to arrange the post-disposal procedures.

And not for the first time Sousuke idly toyed with the idea of disposing his blue-haired menace in the process as well - just for fun, of course. He would never seriously consider killing his own people, would he?

“How long are you staying?” he asked casually, closing the file and looked at Marco. Ulquiorra could deal with that later.

"Yeap - Would have thought he'd be smarter than that, I'd say," Marco remarked casually. No one in their right minds would mess with the Concavos if they knew what was good for them - and Marco knew that from first hand experience. He even had the scar to prove it.

"Makes things convenient for you, doesn't it?" he added, smiling lightly. There were advantages, with Bynes dipping his fingers in everything and trying to make best out of the worst situation.

"How long am I staying?" Marco reiterated, chuckling. "Well, that depends on how long you need me here. I'll be around as long as you want me to - plus a few days, to fiddle with paperwork."

“Is that so?” Aizen raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a smirk. “Well, that’s good to know.” He picked up the second file and put it on top of the other before he slid them towards the edge of his desk. “You should have dinner with me,” he added, glancing at his wrist watch. “We’d be less rushed, then and I’d like to catch up with my favourite secret agent.”

And Sousuke wouldn’t have a dinner date with an old widow looming over his head. Tilting his head to the side a little, he cast a thoughtful glance at Marco, wondering whether Mrs Edwards would be susceptible to... He pushed that thought aside.

“How’s Saturday for you?” The Concavo rose from his chair and straightened his jacket.

Marco was fully aware that Aizen's 'You should have dinner with me' equated to 'You will have dinner with me' - on Saturday, apparently.

"Of course," Marco said, getting to his feet hastily with a slight bounce as Aizen stood. He didn't want to hold the Concavo up - especially since he had a dinner date after this. It was about time the old man got to know and get well acquainted with women.

"Whenever is fine. I'm always available for you. You'll just have to give me an address and a time."

And Marco really needed to get a map.

They stepped outside together and Aizen had his secretary write down the address of Cinq. “Saturday, eight o’clock,” he said as he handed the slip of paper to the young double-crossing agent - his double-crossing agent.

Their paths had crossed seven years ago when the Dinosaurs bit off more than they could chew. Raiding a shipment of the Concavos hadn’t been a bad plan per se. Marco’s gang just hadn’t been ready for that kind of operation. Well, it worked out fine for both sides in the end.

Greed was a truly beautiful thing.
