Generally speaking, it is good to castle early, as early as you can, but Irving Chernev invokes this quotation for the Ruger - Gebhard (1915) game, when Gebhard opts to castle when he arguably should have moved to break up the formidable center that Ruger had developed. A pressing issue should not be evaded in favor of a needless castling just because it is so easy and generally the right idea. First, put out the fire!
