I wanted to make sure everything was positive before updating everyone about the good news in my life. On Sep. 11th, I took the day off to get a physical check-up, and I was told that I was 3-4 months pregnant! I was not only happy, but extremely shocked. This is the story:

After waiting years to get married, finish college, begin my career...my husband and I finally decide to get married and start a family. Once we get married we stop using contraceptives, and leave it up to fate. A year later we realize nothing has happened and wonder if maybe it has something to do with my irregular periods. I check with my doctor, and she says that I might want to try a low dosage of birth control to regulate my period...then try again later. I wasn't in any hurry to have a baby so I decided to take her up on the advise...not knowing I was already pregnant!

Seems my doctor did not take a pregnancy test before the birth control was given to me...even though that's why I thought she was asking for blood work, urine, and pap before handing me the pills. A month goes by and while taking these pills I begin to feel very bloated, tired, vomit twice, and urinate more often throughout the day. I decide the pills must be causing all these side effects so I get off them in hopes of getting back to normal. I wait almost two weeks for my body to get back to it's normal routine, but the bloating gets worse though all other symptoms go away.

On Sep. 10th, I join a bowling competition with pals from work and win first place! As I get home, I notice my mother-in-law outside watering the lawn. She takes one look at me and says, 'Come here, are you pregnant?' WHAT?!?!?! I reply with 'No, it's side effects from the pills I started a month ago...I'm off of them and waiting for the bloating to go down'. She insist on me going to the doctors again. I take a day off work immediately and ask the doctor to see me. The next day the doctor instructs me to lay down as she feels my abdominal area, and the look of surprise on her face tells it all. She then gives me a cup to urinate in, and proceeds to give me a pregnancy test...she comes back in shock and congratulates me. WHAT?!?!?! At this point I'm torn with being happy and confused. I probe her a bit 'didn't you detect anything 2 months ago when I came in for a check-up before the birth control?' and she replies with 'no, I wasn't looking for that'. My head begins to swirl as I ask her 'so I took a month of birth control pills while I was pregnant? Should I be worried?' She assured me that it wouldn't have harmed the baby being that it was a low dosage and only taken for a month. Yet, she assigns me an OBGYN immediately to get an ultrasound and begin prenatal vitamins. The story regarding the OBGYN will have to wait for another post (I've been through almost 4 now).

In conclusion, I'm 4 1/2 months pregnant (and showing now)...everyone is so happy and excited. Might be my parent's last grandchild since my siblings are done having kids. =P
