Ys smiles, just a little, but the image is too grainy to see that it does not reach his eyes.] I never considered the possibility anything like these… pokémon could exist. They are very interesting. [He glances off screen at his sneasel, standing dutifully-if grumpily-by his side

I don't think anyone really know how they got here. [ Flynn smiles not unkindly. ]

Really? [Returns the smile with a thoughtful frown.] I don't suppose it's amnesia. It's more like a kidnapping- or a dream.

Whatever it is, it's rather inconvenient. [ Still, he chuckles lightly. ] Which Pokémon did you start out with?

And confusing. The pokémon-- it's called a Sneasel. [Ys glances off screen and continues, tone slightly perplexed:] It has claws. And feathers.

[ Flynn looks closer at the screen, like he's trying to catch a glimpse of the Sneasel. It's clear he still isn't used to the idea of the 'gear technology. ]

Claws and feathers? [ That sounds much more like the monsters he's used to back home. ] It sounds very striking.

It is. [Ys tilts the screen obligingly, so that

I don't think I blame it.

[ Flynn Growlithe, Taci, spots the Sneasel on the tilted screen and growls curiously. ]

[Sneasel's ears lower at the sound, and she regards Taci through narrowed eyes. She murmurs quietly, wondering what the Growlithe wants. Ys tilts the screen back up partway, so half of his face can be seen.] I don't think it likes yours, though. What pokemon is that?

Taci's a Growlithe. [ He pets her fondly. ] From what I can tell, she's basically just a dog who can uh, breathe fire. [ That sounded much better in his head.

Taci sees the Sneasel's hostility and makes another curious sound, this one more like a whine. ]

That's impressive. It's a 'fire' type, then? [Sneasel grumbles a bit more, wary, but her ears perk up. She peers closer at the screen to get a better look at Taci.]

That's what the Pokédex says. [ Taci squirms a bit more and sniffs at the 'gear. Curious new friend is there! ] Does your Sneasel have a 'type' too?

According to the Pokédex, ice and dark. [Sneasel perks up even more, and waves, showing off her claws; as long as Taci doesn't want to eat her, she's fine with being friends.] Half the opposite of yours.

[ Luckily, Taci has a crippling weakness for store-bought dog food, and will likely never have a reason to eat anything else, the way Flynn spoils her. ] I guess that would be the 'ice' type? Does that mean your Sneasel can breathe ice the way Taci can breathe fire?

[ He'll ask about the 'dark' thing later - that just sounds confusing. ]

[Ys glanced at the sneasel, who clicked her claws together as if to communicate.] I don't know. [Sneasel grumbled something under her breath and sent a look to Taci that was clearly put upon. Something like, 'Does your trainer listen any better?' ] Maybe when it gets stronger.

Taci can breathe fire?

[ Taci rolls her eyes, because Flynn is very stubborn about the strangest thing, but it's an affectionate sort of exasperation. ] It sounds like be both have a lot to learn.

Seems so. [She held up a clawed hand in equal exasperation, expression unhappy; he never listened to her at all. It was frustrating.] How long have you been here?
