Today is Martin Luther King Jr day if you didn't know. Today we remember Mr King for his endeavors.
In 1968 he was assasinated.
Now that's depressing and all. But the other depressing way to look at this, the people who supported that racist and intolerable system are still live today. Do you really think they have learned the error of their ways? That all men are created equal? or does racism still act as a driving force in their lives. A force that killed Martin Luther King Jr. It's not as if this was an isolated event many others were beaten and/or killed. King had been receiving death threats for years. His house was firebombed.
The truly disgusting part that makes me sick to my stomach, the people responsible for this are still around. It is not some distant past. The problem still exists. Do you think these people suddenly learned the error in their ways?
Further more.
All it takes to ensure the triumph of evil is for enough good men to do nothing.
Those who were complacent with that system are also still around. It took the lives of good men and women to force that system to break. Undoubtably it is far better than what it is today, but race is still an issue.
Affirmative action, the education cap in between black and white children. The problems still exist, but there is no easy solution to the current ailments. These require major societal changes. Changes I hope to see, but they haven't after 40 years, will they ever occur?
Anyways, just some questions to think about. I know i get worked up thinking about how good men and women died trying to bring about a more just system.
Anyways, cheers.
