For the bride and groom not to have a problem anymore, Yamada volunteered himself to fetch the best man. He went to Takaki’s address. To his surprise, he discovered that he was Yuyan, his playmate when he was five years old.
He never thought he would be a nerd - loner, with thick-glasses and he spent his twenty-four-seven with his gadgets. He’s not the boy who he had a crush anymore. Takaki Yuya is not the kind of a man who he’d fall in love with or even just a crush.

Yamada devoured a delicious and hot ramen. They were in a Chinese restaurant, eating their dinner.
He suddenly stopped sipping a noodle when he saw Takaki staing at him. "What?" he asked to him.
"You're such a glutton," Takaki commented, smirking. He's eyes were glowing while watching Yamada eat. "Earlier, you almost ate all the food my Mom cooked. That's why you look healthy. You love food too much."
Yamda frowned. And he also wanted to cry like a child. He lost his appetite on what he said. "Then, don't." He dropped his chopsticks and pushed the bowl away from him.
"What do you mean 'don't'?" Takaki asked, still smiling.
"I'm not eating anymore."
"You're such a drama king. Go on, eat. I'm just amused on the way you eat." He pushed Yamada's bowl back to him. "Finish it."
"Baka. After what you said that I'm fat?"
"I didn't say you're fat. What I said, you're healthy --"
"That's the same!" he yelled. He's really sensitive when someone calls him fat or healthy.
Didn't people know that he'd been on a diet for eight years just so he could lose his weight? The good thing with a diet was that he could stop himself to be tempt to eat more than he needed. But there were times that he craved something so much that he couldn't stop eating anymore. His efforts on dieting would always seem futile.
But then, Takaki just reminded him that he's healthy.
"It's okay if you're not slim. You're just my type because even if you became fat, you would be still cute."
"R-really?"
"Yeah. That's why you should finish that." Takaki gave hime his chopsticks.
Even though there's a possibility that Takaki's just saying that to comfort him, he still felt happy. His appetite came back.
"It feels good to eat, right? So why are you depriving yourself just for the sake of being sexy?" Takaki said. "Besides, you look sexy for me."
Yamada blushed. "T-then what about you? You lost some wieght. You're not eating well when you broke up with Rubi, aren't you? I saw your picture with her and --" He suddenly stopped when he realized that he just admitted what he did.
"What picture?" Takaki wrinkled his forehead but Yamada couldn't tell if he's angry. It seemed not. He's just wondering.
"Your picture with Rubi, hugging each other. I think that picture was taken in Nikko or somewhere north."
"Oh, that?" he just answered. Takaki stared down on his ramen.
"You still love her, don't you?" Deep inside, Yamada wanted to think that he's wrong. Maybe because he's irritated to the people who are hopelessly romantic to the point they destroy or change their life whenever the people they love leave them. For him, it shouldn't be like that. Life should still go on after a failed relationship.
That's why he told his friends that he'd be still happy even though him and Nakajima would break up. He just became a part of his life but not the whole of it. Why would he brood about it? The world is so much beautiful to drown himself in loneliness.
As a matter of fact, he didn't feel sad even a bit when Nakajima broke up with him. He was just angry at first because he couldn't believe himself that he didn't see what kind of a man he was.
"No," Takaki replied.
"You don't love her anymore?" he asked, surprised.
"Not anymore. Like said, it was a long time ago. It's been three years since we broke up."
"Then why are you still sulking because she left?"
"I'm not sulking."
"Oh, really? Then why did Aunt Yuriya tell me that you're still sulking until now because of her?"
"It's just maybe Mom's interpretation because I lost my social life and because..." He heaved a sigh first. "I don't have a new girlfriend yet."
"Why don't you just date another so that you could replace her?"
"It's not that simple. Before a man could date someone, first, he needs to find a person whom he likes."
"Is that so? All I know is, boys just ask anyone for a date, pretty or not whenever they think that that person is easy to get," he pouted.
"I'm not a kid anymore to do that. I won't date anyone just for the sake of having someone to call 'lover'. I'm already looking for a lifetime partner."
"Oh, right. You and Yabu-kun have the same age. You're twenty-seven, right?"
"No. I'm twenty-five."
He laughed. "Don't lie."
"I'm twenty-five. Calculate it if you don't believe me. How old were you whenever you and Aunt Yui visit us? Five, right? How old was I then?"
"Eight years old." He's not lying. Seventeen years had passed since his Mom would always take him to go with her here. "How did that happen? You and Yabu-kun were classmates in high school, weren't you? Were you just five years old when you entered first grade?"
"No. I was seven years old when I entered grade school, just like the others. Mom was a teacher in a public school before but she transferred in a public school. So even I also transferred. I should be just in second grade but Mom enrolled me in her class - which ws in fourth grade."
"So that's why you both were classmates. Yabu-kun studied high school here in Tokyo?"
"Actually, his family really lives here in Tokyo. He stayed in Osaka just now. I guesses that he like it there because it's peaceful. Kota is the type who doesn't want a strident environment."
"And you became best friends. Aren't yo flattered? Yabu-kun was not an ordinary high school student. I'm sure, in your whole school, his family was the richest. And yet, he chose you to become his best friend. Why don't you want to go to his wedding?" At last! He could finally insert that topic in their conversation.
Takaki thought for a while. "Occasions like weddings make me sad."
"Why?" Yamada suddenly felt a concern to him.
He only shrugged. And then Yamda remembered what Takaki said earlier that he's already looking for a lifetime partner because he's not getting any younger.
"Did you and Rubi had a plan to marry?"
Again, he thought for awhile. "Yeah. Sort of."
"I see." So that's why his break up with her really hurt for him. "What happened?"
He smirked. "You really won't stop until I tell you the reason, will you?"
"Sorry but yes. I'm really curious since the first so I want to know the answer."
"Rubi works in an airline company in Hong Kong."
"Flight attendant?" he said. That's what Chii wanted but his height deprived him from getting his dream job.
"Yes, she's a flight attendant. Or was. He husband doesn't want her to work. She doesn't need to."
"She's married?"
"Yes," he confirmed. "She met he husband in the plane, an Englishman and an investor in Hong Kong and Singapore."
"Is he rich?"
"Filthy rich."
"She replaced you?" He couldn't be right, right? Maybe they already separated when Rubi met that Englishman.
Takaki thought for awhile. "Kind of because they're already married."
"Hidoi!" he exclaimed.
"She was two months pregnant when she told me about the other man."
"Bitch!" he exclaimed again.
"She's not,' he defended her ex-girlfriend. "The Englishman was the one who pursued her. She told him that she's already engaged. By the way, his name is 'Wesley'
"Wesley accepted his rejection. But one time, they met again in a hotel in Hong Kong. Wesley invited her to have a drink with him him at the bar of the hotel. She accepted it because she thought nothing would happen. Her drink was spiked. When she woke up, she was in his hotel suite. And there, she got pregnant."
"Is that true? Maybe she just didn't want you to upbraid her?" He still didn't want to believe that Rubi was innocent. How could he, what Takaki told him was like a scene in a movie.
"She wasn't lying to me. She never did. She doesn't need to lie because no matter what the situation was, she knew I would always understand. But I admit it that she hid what happened to her for months. I knew why. She was confused. She was thinking if she would be still worthy for me to marry her after what happened. But when she found out that she was pregnant, it was the right time to tell it to me."
"Were you hurt?"
"Of course."
"Were you mad?"
"Yes. But not with her but with the situation. I don't know why it happened to us."
"Why didn't you get married? Didn't you accept her because of what happened to her?"
"I can still accept her, Ryo-chan. No matter what happened to her, I'm ready to marry her. She's the one who decided to end everything between us. She didn't want to give me a child that not mine. She advised me to find another who is more worthy of my name."
If earlier he doubted Rubi, not anymore. He thought, why would Takaki get a girlfriend who had that kind of personality?
"How did she end up with the guy who raped her - I mean, Wesley?"
"Because her decision was final, about us breaking up. I just thought what was right for her and her child. I advised her to tell about her pregnancy to the father.
"According to her stories, it looked like that Wesley isn't a bad guy. In fact, when he found out he brought her to his hotel suite the morning after, he offered her marriage right away. He wanted her so much the moment he laid his eyes on Rubi and I know the reason why." He smiled bitterly. "I also fell in love with her the first time I saw her."
Yamada should be sick because of the cheesiness Takaki was telling him but that wasn't what he felt when he stated his love to his ex-girlfriend. In fact, he could really feel the sincerity in his voice and his eyes. The image of him and Rubi in the picture appeared, walking in a park while holding each other's hands.
"She followed my advice. She talked to Wesley. He took care of her that's why I wouldn't wonder now why love bloomed in her heart for that guy. After giving birth, they got married in Hong Kong. They invited me but I didn't go."
"Let me guess. Since the day Rubi married another guy, all the wedding invitations that you received, you would always reject it."
He didn't deny. "Yeah."
