[154] gone too soon

It has been about a week since the news broke out about SHINee's lead singer; Jonghyun committing suicide in his apartment.

Honestly, when the news came out, I was in shock. I know that death is something that happens often, and suicide well it is a method that is often taken. But I never did would expect a young kpop star to take his own life.

What really struck me hard was that he was suffering from depression when he took his own life. I know that as a Christian I cannot accept the fact that he took his own life; however I recognise that he must have somehow felt that there was no way out of whatever he was going through. Depression is a mental problem; it is like being caught in an endless cycle of sadness, hopelessness and pain. What I was most sadden by was that; did he have no one that he could have turned to during this period of pain. What caused him to eventually take that last fatal step of ending his own life.

People would question and said he should have fought harder to live. But when you are caught in that pit of darkness; it is difficult. I am not excusing his action, but I do realise that when you are in such an entertainment industry taking about your problems or telling the world about it; is difficult.

We need to recognise that idols/celebrities/stars they themselves are not excuse from what would plague a normal human being. If anything they problem face more pressures because they are always expected to be something; be smiling; be perfect; be who the fans want them to be. It is difficult to smile through your pain; especially with thousands of people looking at you. It is difficult to live up to the expectations places on you; not just by those around you but by those who watch you.

I am truly sorry to his family, his loved ones (members and colleagues) and of course his fans. Everyone is grieving together. It is never easy to lose someone close to you; especially when that person had so much more in life to look forward to. I only hope that with what has happen, people realise that these celebrities are human beings. They have feelings, problems, hopes, dreams, weakness like everyone else does.

When one goes to the internet to write such hurtful comments about someone, think about the consequences of the action. Yes you may remain anonymous on the internet, but that not excuse the actions in which you took. What this world lacks is love, and clearly over the years maybe of us have forgotten what it means to show love. We do live in a world with turmoil and many actions which are fuelled by hate, but that does not mean that we should think of that has being okay to do so.

I hope Jonghyun has found the peace he has so much needed, I hope the family and the members turn to each other in their grief and not grief alone. Humans were never meant to be solitary creatures; we need a community to grow, to love, to heal. I hope the fans and anti-fans learn that their stars are as human as they are.

You have done well Jonghyun, please rest in peace.

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new."   -Steve Jobs-
