[set the night before
this]
Nadiyah: *taps quietly at your chamber door*
Luthien: *rubbing my eyes and propping myself up on my elbows, I put aside the knitting that I had fallen asleep working on* Come in.
Nadiyah: *slipping on and pushing the door closed behind me, still clad in the dress Halbarad gave me* If I may have a moment of your time, m'lady?
Luthien: *smiling, surprised to see you* Of course, dear! Come in, come in, sit, make yourself at home! I would fetch you some tea, but I'm afraid I can't make any at the moment. There's some water over there, though. *smiles* It's so good to see you, dear. You look well.
Nadiyah: Thank you. *ducking deferentially, settling instead into a coiled seat at the side of your bed in a comfortable heap of knitted things* I hate to ask anything of you, while you are like this...
Luthien: Oh nonesense. I can't sit in this room forever, you know. What do you need?
Nadiyah: You said you would wed Halbarad and I.
Luthien: Yes, and I intend to. I know my own customs and those of Halbarad's folk, but I'm afraid I know nothing of your own. Is this what you've come to talk to me about?
Nadiyah: *nods* As an exile my customs do not matter come into this, though if I think HIS customs are silly I will say no. *squirms* I do not want to wear a frilly white dress. I do not wish to repeat words and words and WORDS that I do not understand. I do not want to be STARED at by the entire city. I just want this to be... *fumbles a bit* Real...?
Luthien: *smiles and pats your hand* Come up here, dear, I hate looking down at you. There, that's better. Look, you don't have to wear a frilly white dress. I didn't either. And you don't have to repeat anything. I'm afraid I can't do anything about the staring unless you don't invite the entire city. But, I think I understand what you mean.
Nadiyah: *I* did not invite the whole city. I hope Halbarad did not. *hopefully* But...you will do it?
Luthien: Certainly. It is your wedding, after all. It should be something that you remember fondly for the rest of your life.
Nadiyah: *muttering* However long THAT lasts...
Luthien: *blinks* Oh dear, what's the matter?
Nadiyah: I just have little hope of Halbarad's life expectancy.
Luthien: Don't say that. He's my descendant, I'm sure he's got at least sixty, seventy good years in him unless some Valar decides to make him a Maia. Which isn't entirely unlikely. Just... don't be so pessimistic.
Nadiyah: *indignantly* Have you SEEN how much he gets into trouble?!
Luthien: He gets that from me, I'm afraid. *sigh* But he always bounces back, doesn't he?
Nadiyah: Mmm hm. But still...I want to be wed as soon as possible. Tomorrow. *uncharacteristic pleading look* Can you?
Luthien: I will. Of course I will. But you have to promise me that you'll be at my wedding too, alright? *smiles*
Nadiyah: That's not TOMORROW, is it?!
Luthien: *rolls eyes* I don't know WHEN it is. Hopefully before I'm too large to fit into the dress I chose.
Nadiyah: *smile* Then why not tomorrow?
Luthien: *softly* Because I'd like to walk down the aisle, and that isn't possible right now.
Nadiyah: Oh... *is quiet for a moment* I'm sorry. I just thought, as with Halbarad-- I will stop there.
Luthien: Don't worry about it. I just... I don't know if it will ever get better. I'm trying to accept it, but it's... No, I shouldn't burden you with my own problems.
Nadiyah: Why not? I am listening.
Luthien: If you wish to hear it... It's hard to accept.
