Sam smiled. She had everything she wanted in the world right now. Cheese, lettuce, ham, tomato, mayonnaise and bread. She looked at her sandwich and her mouth watered. She was about to sink her teeth into it when the door to the Shay apartment opened and shut. Freddie had just walked in.
“Hey, nub,” she said in greeting, “What’s up?”
“I have to give you something,” he sat beside her on the couch. She looked at him, puzzled.
“What are you trying to pull, Fredward?”
He produced a card from his pocket and gave it to her.
Sam read it. It was a gift certificate to the Cheesecake Warehouse.
“I got it for mom, but she doesn’t condone lactose. So…take it.”
“Thanks,” she pocketed it.
Spencer came out of his room, “Hey, Sam, you got the sandwich I saved for you?”
“Yeah,” she smiled, “Thanks.”
Carly came down the stairs, “Hey Sam. Guess what?”
“What?”
“We have pudding! Leftovers from last night’s show! You want some?”
“Do I?” Sam smiled, “Thanks!”
She bit into her sandwich as Carly handed both her and Freddie cups of chocolate pudding.
Wow. Sam felt so special. She had good friends and good food. Taking another bite of sandwich, Sam looked at Carly, Spencer and Freddie with a smile.
“I love you guys…not you Freddie.”
