Sillyness, and a bit more FoxSlug explanation

Apr 21, 2007 01:49

First, silliness! Because you can watch it once and then once it starts looping you cna listen to the happy pappy music and become totaly addicted! (Yes, I'm helping to spread the viral infection that is this flash. It's a gonna be big!) ... Also, it HAS a generic Furry-Slug thing in it too! Woo!

First, whats my current situation with my FoxSlug.... Well, he's not a character I play myself, nor do I RP very much with, or as... He's an entity thats something more like a Familiar. I guess a good existing example would be like how Lil Glenn Doggy has his Demi-Glenn. FoxSlug follows behind me, rests on my sholder or head, or flutters around me with little bat-wings as a certain type of him. Like at the end of Metroid 2, Samus gets her new bestest friend baby Metroid.
Some of my buddies have told me how unique it is I really ought to make it my character I actually RP as. I've thought about it, it might be neat. But I'm still content in being a plain average red wuffie.... for now. >.> If I do ever EVER decide to change my fursona it'd definably be my precious FoxSlug as my first choice. As of right now, I think I've actually had more art drawn on FoxSlug then myself. And everyone has loved doing it so much, I proudly show it off, he's been so well received by the rest of the Furry community.
So where did he come from? From a RP perspective, thats still under thought. From a character creation perspective thats easy. I once had a Franklin Fox 'Puffkin' plush. http://www.4-collectors.com/puffkins/ Cute little plushies that tried to take off on the success of Beanie Babies. They were soft little plush balls with 2 little feet sticking out that came in all sorts of species, with the occasional non-animal thing like a pumpkin or snowman. I had so many of them too. ^.^ I had first found them in a arts and crafts store, and then they started showing up in Hallmarks. The first 3 I got were a Fox, a Raccoon, and a Porcupine. Well as I was a little rough with them sometimes, I'd be marching the fox around like a doofus on his little stubby legs and I accidentally pulled his legs apart roughly and tore a hole in his crotch (noooo, not an SPH, dont be dirty. ^.^) So now I'd start using him as a makeshift puppet on my finger. And thru wear the hole tore larger. Eventualy I took out all the stuffing and beads thats when it happened. I tucked his little legs into the hole and layed it down, it was a little sluggy-fox. I showed him around a bit and everyone thought it was cute, but I diddn't really go anywhere with it. After the innitial novelty of showing him around wore off he became a steady site on top of my PC monitor, always watching over me while I surfed and gamed. The time of this was around 1998-2000ish.
Then around 2002 I think it was, I moved to Sacramento. And there some friends new this guy who had a BROKEN RPG system that really.... sucked. Mages could cast 1 spell a day, and Warriors would do everything all the time. I wasn't much into tabletop RPGs at the time, having only played 1 Munchkiny session of D&D about a year earlier. So the standard fare of races and classes didn't interest me much. Of course when I moved I took my Fox Slug plush with me. And one night when the group was at this guy's house rolling up characters for his campaign I thought, hey, can I use this for your system? And he was all like, Sure. You could use the stats for a Pixie. I thought about not wanting to be too slow and getting left behind by the party, so I had the idea of adding the Bat-Wings to him as an extra mode of locomotion. (Thats where the wings came from) And as for abilities, he was a mentalist spell casting creature. Charm and Mind control spells and such. I thought it made sense since otherwise he's pretty physically defenseless and with abilities like that it'd make more sense as that'd be how the species has survived without getting wiped out by more physical threats. (Such abilities may or may not wind up as a final feature of my FoxSlug character. If I decide to take the extra steps to give him a history and evolution scheme and the whole 'science of' thing, like how Chakats have this huge documentary of creation, I think it'd make that kind of sense to keep such abilities intact.)
The first piece of art that someone else besides me drew of him was by Firebringer. It was a 'Fluffy' FoxSlug, of the bat-winged variety. I've looked at her archives and she dosent have it up ANYWHERE. I'd almost lost it in a couple of PC failures and crashes. But it's somehow survived and remembering this, I've just uploaded it to my Photobucket for safe keeping. ^.^ Anyways, once again I didn't do much with him for a long time. I used the pic as an icon for a little while, but thats about it.
He's always been my little bud, but I didn't make him very publicly known until just recently. Only my closest friends would at some point find out about his existence. At a small Furry con in So. Cal. Terrie Smith was there, and I was one of the first few people into the dealers den. When I saw her I asked her if she'd do a badge for me. I described what he looked like, and even did a little doodle. Later when I came back I saw it finished I was so happy, it was EPIC-LY awesome, clipped up for all to see on her board of stuff. ( http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/happywulf/Art/foxslugTS.jpg ) That was when I really started wanting to get him out there more, and everyone loved it, the furs were bowled over and laughed and giggled at how awesomely creepy it was. Then at AX2006 (Anime Expo) I met Zarla and her friend Icarus. We talked a bit, about her art, what she was up to, how she's been stalked by crazy furry fanboys ever since she made that Move Your Dead Bones flash. Then, just as I was saying see ya later and walking away... I turned around and asked if she'd do a piece for me if she wasn't too busy, and she didn't charge too much. Icarus offered, and it's one of the top pieces so far still. I'm pretty sure I had my Terrie Smith badge with me for reference. ( http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/happywulf/Art/FoxSlugAX.jpg ) Now I have a little more then a half-dozen pics of him, mostly badges, and I'm even been told by some furry acquaintances of mine that they've 'shape shifted' that form once or twice. And it's interesting to stumble across various Furry-Slugs randomly in art galleries, even as such in the Flash I linked. Like my buddy RetroArmadillo, its neat for me and him to find other Armadillo Furries.
Now enough about the history of my FoxSlug, a little more about the creature itself and how he exists as a character. Theres actually 3 of them that 'follow' me. There might be more joining them later... And 2 of the 3 have NAMES! OMG! The one with Wings is Nix, as he was originally named in the RPG session that spawned him. The other 2 are standard wingless ones, the other named one is Nero. They range in size from about the size of a medium/large dog, to a minimum size of about 4 times the size of an actual slug (maybe about a full grown Taranchula Spider size). The ones that follow me are roughly the size of large house cats. Big enough to hold and cuddle in your arms, and still small enough to comfortably rest around my shoulders or on my head. Nix and Nero and Orange color FoxSlugs, and the as of yet unnamed 3rd is a Red Fox (and is a bit smaller then the other 2) Edit: P.S. Also, even though he's a 'slug' he's still a HE, and not a hermaphrodite. ^.^ Like a good fox, of course.
I wanna get drawing more for myself... Then I could produce my own FoxSlug art and not have to rely so heavily on badges, commissions and gift art I've asked for as a favor. =/ I wanna keep a small sketchpad next to my PC for when I notice, Hey, I'm not doing anything! I should doodle! But now it's gettin' late for me and I think this is a good start for now on my 'Origin of teh FoxSlug'
