being excited about the elections is not new to me. i have been in a single member constiutency for the past elections and voted once five years ago. it's no surprise that we are now in a grc given that the ruling party did not exactly have an easy win last round. have followed my dad to rallies, bringing our own stools and mini fans as i believe in making an informed decision.
social media has really brought about a revolution in information sharing. i was just showing my dad the picture of the mass of people at the wp's aljunied rally last night. he would never get to see that in his chinese mainstream papers. don't get me started on our media...
there seems to be a major outcry from singaporeans this time and people are more engaged. it's heartening to know that, but i wonder whether history would really be made in this election and we would get more than the 2-3 alternative voices in parliament. the support for the opposition might seem enormous, but we need to remember that it's usually the discontented who bother to speak out and hence we are led to believe this group might be bigger than it is as i do believe there is a huge majority of neutrals or citizens who are content with the current state of affairs.
i'm really impressed by the opposition's unity and courage this election. with ltk and cst contesting in grcs, they are sending a strong challenge to singaporeans to get more of them in or be prepared for the absence of their voices since most are unwilling to take up ncmp seats if they don't get elected (they
consider it a backdoor in to parliament).
it will be a very interesting week ahead :-)
